Tim Forbes, Trilogy 1-3 (triptych)
Acrylic on canvas, 40 x 120 in.
Greater the sum of the parts . As a single artist with a tinge of OCD I am married to patterns of certainty. Certain food, wine, shirts. Certain paint, canvas and formats. A delivery of 40 inch square canvases created uncertainty stirring a deniable urge to immediately paint a circle as the metaphoric basis of life. Rather, a synopsis of Pattern Recognition in three vertically oriented works came to the fore as a Trilogy. A single static line of identical height and geometric position on each work creates an addendum to the rhythm of the patterns and their depth of field, completing negative space as the beat goes on.
Tim Forbes, Aegis: In Situ
Acrylic on canvas, 36 x 48 in.
A protective shield associated with Zeus as a symbol of divine protection The Ageis was also worn by his daughter Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. Over time, the term "aegis" has come to be used metaphorically to refer to protection or shelter. Forbes’ signature use of a dynamic trapezoid shape as an architectural element within the painting in a fusion of geometric design and symbolism calls for the layered protection needed in the vulnerable environment of place in the virtual landscape.
